No bookings possible for 2007 - 2008 season. Vessel piliged and outboards stolen 18 December 2007 then scuttled by perpertraters in Whangaroa harbor while I was at sea on the west coast vessel catch tuning! Such mighty warriors to do this despicible act!
MAY 2008 AND THE PERPETRATORS HAVE NOT YET BEEN IDENTIFIED. HOWEVER THE VESSEL WILL BE REPOWERED WITH INBOARD DIESEL AGAIN AND REINTRODUCED BACK INTO FULL COMMERCIAL FISHING TROLLING ALL TUNA SPECIES.

Skipjack, Albacore and Yellow Fin Tuna on light to medium weight line will give anyone a day of excitement and full value for money with a day fishing ' Kansai ' out of Whangaroa. These fish are manageble and exciting for young and old, male or female,first timers or experienced fishers.

This vessel is set up to specialize in trolling Tuna, one game chair, two standup harness, 24 kg and 15 kg rods provided.

This vessel is comprehensively equipped with the latest ' Black Box ' Navigation and underwater technology for fish finding.

Colour underwater searchlight Sonar installed as professional fish finding equipment on a true hunting vessel greatly enhancing your chances of a find and a strike of a game fish during your charter day.


This vessel is a product of ' Black Art professional boat tuning services ' as an owners vessel backed with nineteen years Commercial and thirteen years Game fishing  experience and further coupled with underwater acoustics knowledge as a true professional operation. 

With a homestay option out of Whangaroa harbor coming on stream in 2006 a booking with Rodney could see you and the weigh station at Whangaroa Game Fish club featuring in fishing magazines this season.

MARINE COURSE OPPORTUNITYis being made available to students wanting hands on learning / training experience on a sport fishing vessel as a homestay live in option for up to three months. In harbour and open sea time, all aspects of line and lure sport fishing with fish catching and handling to commercial standard. Colour Sonar, Colour Depth sounding, Radar, GPS, Plotter, Auto pilot, safe use of, plus basic navigational skills taught. Deployment of Sea Anchor at sea, use of stabilizing Paravane's while at sea or at rest, Vessel painting/ anti fouling preparation and application plus normal maintenance skills covered. Cooking at sea, Basic Vessel design can be included as a shore activity A customized course can be arranged depending on interest in any areas. Course fee US $1500 per week per student, maximum three students per class

rdavidson ABOUT THE MAN Rodney @ 63 years old now, currently single, very fit and together,has positioned himself perfectly for maxing out opportunities and enjoyment for this stage of life in Whangaroa, Northland , New Zealand.

Both daughter's, Petra and Heidi, are well established in their own right and making their own way in the real world. Petra in Appaloosa horse breeding with her own property / stud and Heidi currently living in Peterborough England as head of Thomas Cook travel E -Commerce department

Rodney is widely travelled Internationally visiting and living in,for various lengths of time, a number of countries. Mostly connected too, but not exclusively, Marine in some capacity and the oceans of the world surfing, sailing and fishing Involved in the first wave of New Zealand's ' long board ' surfing as a surf board builder with his own label and around that time too as a foundation member and builder for the Takapuna Ski Club on Mt Ruapehu in the North Island of New Zealand.

There are many side to this man and the home in Whangaroa reflect some of this in an open plan, simple but very liveable interior, and in the surrounding grounds is visible to all the appreciation of time and space as a wealth asset. The home is being built on to now with the addition of ' North and South ' wings, the north wing will contain a ' full ' size Snooker table room with a guest room and the south wing to contain a Master bedroom with ensuite and large dinning room opening out on to a large deck for a sense of space.

A great deal of experience has been accumulated within this life time and is available by way of information sharing within a homestay visit, charter fishing day or day's, or by taking advantage of the Marine Course opportunity. Surfing too, the Mercedes has a roof rack and I still have a long board. Looking forward to meeting you in the future
